There are two things which any person is better off doing more of: reading and pursuing creative work.

Reading is the single most accessible means by which one can expand their mindscape and deepen their sense of empathy toward their fellow humans. Other activities and things have this ability, to be sure, but reading can, and should, be done daily.

Reading advances one’s empathy by bringing to light character’s values and rationalizations behind their actions amidst circumstances different than those lived and experienced by the reader, thereby humanizing another’s actions.

When one actively engages with a book, they can hardly help but take this recognition of validity of another’s actions and apply it to more consistently illuminating their own sense of sonder.

Not only is creative work the sole avenue by which one may temporarily enter that fabled state of flow, and generally requires the creator to learn more – two immense benefits in and of themselves - but it is through creative work one earns a unique sense of their own self-respect.

Read more, it will continually humble you to the complexity, vividness, and beauty of people’s realities around you while also challenging assumptions of your own.

Create more, you will know at least some peace within yourself for knowing you can explore something by your own volition.
